Wiz Banga

Wiz Banga

Does Wiz Banga count as the first australian smoker?

Wiz Banga, owned by Paul Macague, was previously called Joint Effort before the name was changed in 1995. It ran a turbocharged Holden 186 straight-six engine taken from Paul's old ute. The idea behind using a turbo six-cylinder was to be different and bring something new to Australian tractor pulling. While it was certainly unique, Wiz Banga struggled with reliability and never quite performed to its full potential.

At one event, while making its way down the track, the oil seals inside the turbo completely failed. Engine oil was forced into the turbine side, resulting in huge clouds of blue smoke pouring from the exhaust. Paul joked that since the Pro Stock "smoker" class didn't exist back then, his tractor was technically the first smoker in the country.

Not long after, Wiz Banga was retired and sat in the shed for a while. When Paul eventually decided to sell it, he pulled the 186 and dropped in a small block 308 he had lying around. He sold the tractor in 1997 to Dave Clancy and Roland Geiland.

Dave and Roland gave the tractor a full rebuild and renamed it 2-Up.
